Job Description |

The Role
The Victoria and Albert Museum, partnering with Leeds Art Gallery and the Henry Moore Institute, are seeking to appoint an Art Fund Vivmar Foundation Trainee (fixed-term, 22 months). The Art Fund Vivmar Foundation Traineeships are generously supported by The Vivmar Foundation and encourage diversity in the recruitment of curatorial staff.
During the 22-month programme, the trainee will spend a total of 16 months at the V&A South Kensington forming part of the team responsible for the care, research, display, and interpretation of the collections of the Decorative Art and Sculpture Department. The post-holder will work particularly on the development, display and interpretation of contemporary sculpture in addition to building core museum collections management experience.
The Art Fund Vivmar Curatorial Trainee will also spend 6 months based at the Leeds Art Gallery where they will work with the team there and the Henry Moore Institute as part of the longstanding partnership between the two organisations. They could also be involved in projects related to the Yorkshire Sculpture International at Leeds Art Gallery and/or the Henry Moore Institute.
We would like the successful candidate to start in February or early March 2025.
The V&A
The V&A is the world’s leading museum of art and design, housing a permanent collection of over 2.8 million objects, books and archives that span over 5,000 years of human creativity. The museum holds many of the UK's national collections and houses some of the greatest resources for the study of architecture, furniture, fashion, textiles, photography, sculpture, painting, jewellery, glass, ceramics, book arts, Asian art and design, theatre and performance.
Our mission is to be recognised as the world's leading museum of art, design and performance, and to enrich people's lives by promoting research, knowledge and enjoyment of the designed world to the widest possible audience. We strive to make the V&A matter to more people and in that context we work to the following six strategic objectives:
• To create a world class visitor and learning experience across all V&A sites and collections.
• Focus and deepen the relevance of our collections to the UK creative and knowledge economy.
• Expand the V&A's international reach, reputation and impact.
• To operate with financial and organisational initiative and efficiency.
• Showcase the best of digital design and deliver an outstanding digital experience.
• Diversify and increase private and commercial funding sources.
Equity, Diversity & Inclusion
We strive to integrate equality, diversity, and inclusion consistently and naturally into all our activities. We want to be proactive in recognising and removing the barriers that people from all backgrounds may face in accessing our collection, services, and employment. We recognise the value of difference, and we celebrate the creativity and productivity that diversity can bring to everything we do.
We are proud to be an open, tolerant, and diverse organisation. We want to do more to welcome a broader audience and develop a more diverse workforce. At the V&A we are committed to a strict zero tolerance policy on any discrimination, harassment or bullying regarding sexual conduct, race, sex, disability, gender, age, sexual orientation, beliefs, and socio-economic background.
We actively encourage applications from those people who have traditionally not considered working with us especially those from diverse and marginalised groups. |
