  Job Description
It's conserving a magnificent history that will be enjoyed by future generations.

It’s being trusted to deliver. And it’s the satisfaction of caring for an irreplaceable collection. This is what makes a career with the Royal Household so different.

The collection of furniture across our locations is truly diverse, with many unique and historically significant items.

Joining our team of gilding conservators, you’ll carry out gilding conservation and restoration treatments to the highest standard.

Key responsibilities:
• Under the guidance of the Gilding Conservators, you’ll conserve and restore giltwood furniture, following best practice treatments and techniques that are sympathetic to each item.
• Collaborating with colleagues in the team, you’ll prepare and discuss treatment proposals and map out timescales and deadlines for projects for approval.
• You’ll document and record all conservation work to maintain accurate records for future reference.
• You will also produce a report documenting your overall experience with the Royal Collection Trust.
• You’ll also share your knowledge with others, for example groups visiting the workshop, keeping the skills of your profession thriving and inspiring future generations.
• The standards we aim for will stretch you, and supported by your colleagues you’ll be encouraged to develop your technical skills. Knowing that the results of your work will be appreciated by thousands will motivate all you do.
  Required Skills / Qualifications
• With a relevant Conservation degree or related experience, you’ll have an understanding of Conservation Science and of current good practice
• You’ll have excellent fine manual skills and practical experience with the preparation and use of traditional gilding materials and techniques, including oil and water gilding.
• You’ll also be willing to learn the preparation and use of traditional gilding materials and techniques as employed by the Royal Collection Trust gilding workshop, taking every opportunity to widen your skillset.
• Attention to detail will be key to your success, along with the ability to assess, review and refine your own work.
• Capable of working independently or as part of a team, you be well organised and confident managing your workload, as well as welcoming input and collaborating from others.
• Experienced wood carvers with a desire to improve their gilding skills may be considered for the role.
