We are looking for a Library Experience & Engagement Facilitator to join our team on a permanent basis.
Where in Wellcome will I be working?
You will be working in the Library Experience & Engagement team within Curatorial and Public Practice reporting to a Library Experience and Engagement Manager.
The Library Experience and Engagement team works with teams across Wellcome Collection to provide a safe and inclusive space for visitors.
We provide support to users across library service points and through a remote enquiries service, ensuring that all users receive accurate and timely access to information and resources, and retrieve collection items from our closed stores for visitors and colleagues.
The Library Experience and Engagement team also works to engage our visitors with our collections and our spaces. We do this by sharing expertise and knowledge through a range of activities including collection orientated visits and events, and by developing our partnership and participation work with our key audiences.
What will I be doing?
Library Experience and Engagement Facilitators help to provide an inclusive space by combining visitor experience expertise with a developing practice in engagement activity, knowledge and comprehension of our collections, and participation with our priority audiences.
This is achieved through welcoming and providing advice to visitors, developing engagement activities, and retrieving collection items from our closed stores. You will also be involved in projects with other parts of Wellcome Collection, which could include cataloguing, transcription projects, or cross-team engagement activities.
As a Library Experience and Engagement Facilitator, you will:
• Provide high quality and attentive assistance to users across the library service points and via enquiry email and phone line
• Work in partnership with colleagues to ensure an inclusive, consistent, and positive user experience across Wellcome Collection
• Share expertise and knowledge to enable visitors to get the most out of every visit
• Work with the Collections & Digital teams to deliver key processes such as; journal check-in and copy cataloguing of new books
• Research, develop, and deliver new engagement activities and services with priority audiences in mind, including in partnership with the Live Programmes & Participation and Planning & Production teams
• Contribute to a diverse and inclusive culture across the organisation, collaborating across departments.
Is this job for me?
You will have good communication skills, with experience of engaging with a range of audiences. You will have good presentation skills and an ability to engage and talk clearly to groups of varying sizes.
We are looking for someone with a passion for libraries and archives, engaging people with collections, and working to create inclusive environments in a library setting.
We are looking for somebody who:
• Has experience of delivering a high level of service in a customer or visitor-focused environment
• Has experience of developing activities to engage members of the public
• Has the ability to act in equitable ways that help Wellcome Collection achieve it’s Access, Diversity & Inclusion ambitions
• Has the ability to work effectively as part of a team
• Is able to work accurately with good attention to detail
• Is efficient managing their own time, prioritising tasks to meet departmental aims and objectives
The Library Experience and Engagement team contributes to a daily rota, supporting the library service open 6 days a week. Working patterns will include a regular rota of Thursday evenings and Saturdays. The team currently supports a day off rota each fortnight, which can be worked onsite or at home.
