  Job Description
The post of Curator will research and document the collection and develop content for public programming. The post will develop and manage the delivery of exhibition programmes and displays, and other collections-related projects. The post will be responsible to the Director for ensuring that appropriate curatorial standards are implemented and maintained.

• Develop and maintain an expert knowledge of the collection.
• Enhance the knowledge of the collection through programmes and research.
• Develop the collection through active collecting and disposal and advising on the loan of objects.

• Ensure that the collection is accurately catalogued and documented in accordance with the appropriate documentation standards and systems.
• Interpret and disseminate knowledge of the collection to a wide range of audiences through developing exhibitions, displays, publications and other collections-related projects and contribute to the public programme through talks, tours, handling sessions and other activities.
• Project manage the delivery of exhibition programme, partnerships, loans and other collections-related projects.
• Respond to public and academic enquiries relating to the collection
• Assist with the management of volunteers and placements as appropriate.
• Assist with the preparation of grant and sponsorship applications.
• Facilitate access to the collection.
• Work in partnership with the Learning Officer to develop resources for learning, access and public programming.
• Promote the collections to enhance the reputation of The Smith and its collection.
  Required Skills / Qualifications
Degree or equivalent in a relevant subject area.

Experience of curating social history and art collections.
Experience of using museum collections for research and learning.
Experience of planning, managing and successfully completing projects.
Excellent communication skills, written and verbal.
Excellent IT skills.

Commitment to public dissemination of collections knowledge.
Commitment to providing access to the collection.
Ability to work in partnership with other organisations.
Commitment to delivering excellent customer service.
Weekend and evening work when required.
