  Job Description
The Document Services Department (DSD) is responsible for the First Point of Customer Contact (FPOCC), document storage and production, and invigilation of The National Archives collection. The collection currently exceeds 11 million documents and expands each year.

The Reader Invigilation Manager is responsible for all aspects of Reading Room security and public records preservation and care. The role also serves a vital role in helping all our Readers make the most of their visit. The job holder has direct line management responsibility for circa seven Invigilation Staff in all aspects of the Reading Room invigilation.

We are looking for someone with a recognised security qualification, experience of supervising a team, and a passion to work in a security and invigilation role. As a custodian of the collection, this person will be a team player with outstanding interpersonal skills, the ability to stay calm under pressure and have experience of delivering excellent customer service. You will also be a highly motivated, adaptable, and well organised individual, with a diligent and methodical approach. Working collaboratively with the Front of House Team, you will be working in a busy environment and will also act as an ambassador for The National Archives when welcoming visitors and users of our services.

  Required Skills / Qualifications
Essential criteria:
• Significant experience in a Security Management role, in a customer facing environment.
• Current SIA CCTV Operator Licence and Door Supervisor training.
• Excellent communication influencing, negotiating and engagement skills.
• Sound judgement and decision-making skills with a ‘hands on’ problem solving approach, able to remain calm under pressure and take control of incidents.
• Works well as part of a team and is capable of leading, managing, and motivating staff
• Basic IT skills with a working knowledge of the range of MS office packages
