  Job Description
Visitor Experience Supervisor
Permanent
Part-time – Annualised: 1250 hours
London
£20,666.56 per annum

The Royal Air Force Museum is a national museum, a Government non-departmental public body (NDPB) and a registered charity, with two sister sites at London and Midlands. Our purpose is to share the RAF story, past, present and future - using the stories of its people and our collections in order to engage, inform and inspire. Our Vision is to inspire everyone with the RAF story – the people who shape it and its place in our lives.

We have two public sites (London and Midlands) and a stored collection (Stafford). Our trading company and active fundraising supplement Grant in Aid which comes through the Ministry of Defence.

The Royal Air Force Museum is a Carbon Literate organisation and as such promotes Carbon Literacy.

The Museum is looking to appoint two Visitor Experience Supervisors on an annualised contract.

You will be leading from the front to ensure every aspect of our visitor journey is enjoyable and safe. You will work with all departments to ensure the balance of visitor experience and collection protection is maintained. You will also manage the team to maximise their potential and engage with our customers.

The two positions will initially be allocated to support either events or compliance, to support the operational team and liaise with stakeholders as needed.

The position requires excellent communication skills with a positive and enthusiastic aptitude to deliver effective site operations and team leadership.

The ideal candidate will have previous visitor facing supervisory experience ideally in a leisure or heritage environment. You will need to be a confident communicator, a resourceful and supportive team player and be able to respond quickly and positively in a changing environment. You will be expected to uphold the safety and security of colleagues, visitors and the Museum and the excellence of customer service as primary objectives. Being flexible in your outlook is essential as you will be fulfilling a variety of roles at the museum.

You will also support the museum in hosting evening events from gala dinners to sleepovers and outdoor film nights. An understanding of importance of supporting and fulfilling a ‘host’ role for corporate clients and Museum partners is desirable.

As a Visitor Experience Supervisor, you will be required to lead in a variety of roles which will include but are not limited to:
• Proactive response to ensuring the highest possible visitor standards are maintained.
• Effective line management of Visitors Experience Assistants allocated to you.
• Lead the daily operations taking ownerships of problem resolution and acting as main point of contact for other stakeholders.
• Be a critical thinker and able to cope with unforeseeable events or incidents.
• Providing a warm welcome to our visitors and enhancing every visitor’s experience at the Museum through your engagement with them and your problem-solving skills.
• Supporting activities, events, general museum operations, and processing visitor bookings at admissions.
• Promoting and selling museum guidebooks, services, commercial activities, and events to visitors.
• Supporting the museum’s fundraising and commercial activities.
• Providing a safe and secure experience for everyone.
• Being a first aider and fire marshal. Training for both roles will be provided.
• Inspire visitors by sharing the Royal Air Force Story and the story of the people who shape the Royal Air Force.
• There will also be the opportunity to provide engaging talks to visitors.

These are permanent, part-time roles working 1250 hours annually. The working hours each week will be dependent on business requirements (maximum 35 hours per week during peak season and minimum 4 hours per week during off-peak season). You will work a flexible pattern which will include working some weekends, bank holidays and occasional evening/overnights.

The roles will be based at our London site.
  Required Skills / Qualifications
Experience of supervisory work in visitor operations in the
arts/heritage/tourism sector or a similarly customer-focused
environment.

Understanding of compliance and duty of care responsibilities in relation
to the operation of a busy visitor attraction.

Willingness and ability to hold a First Aid Qualification.

Appreciation of what constitutes great customer service.
