  Job Description
Do you want to play a key role in the transformation of Cumbria's premier museum?

Join the dedicated Tullie team as the Active Gallery Producer working on Breaking Down Barriers - Phase 3 of Project Tullie, the museum’s major capital development programme which celebrates our roots as Carlisle’s centre for learning and creativity and reimagines them for 21st century audiences.

This fixed-term post will play a leading role in the development of the ‘Active Gallery’, a major new visitor experience within Phase 3. If you're a dynamic and enthusiastic project manager with great engagement and co-curation skills and who thrives as part of a team, we'd love to hear from you.

Working in close collaboration with colleagues across the Museum, as well as designers, external partners and our community, this is a unique and exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in the delivery of this transformational project for Carlisle and Cumbria.
This role is made possible with funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, with thanks to National Lottery players.

Purpose of the Role
Work with the Collections & Access Manager, the Curatorial Team and volunteers to develop and programme the ‘Active Gallery’ - an innovative new gallery that will bring 100,000 more artefacts out of stores and into public galleries, in response to audience demand to access more of our collections. An accompanying programme of changing trails and displays and a rich programme of events and activities facilitated by our passionate volunteers will allow visitors of all ages, abilities and interests to extract the stories that mean most to them and provide something new to see at each visit.
The role will have a specific focus on:

• Leading development and delivery of the Active Gallery Volunteer Training Programme.
• Developing and delivering co-curation opportunities and rotating Active Gallery displays.
• Working closely with the Public Programme Producer to plan on-gallery engagement activity.
• Working with the Collections & Access Manager to support and train the curatorial team in co-curation, creative development of the collections and ongoing programming of the Active Gallery to ensure post-project legacy.
  Required Skills / Qualifications
• Strong knowledge of the principles of co-curation and co-design.
• Clear evidence of interest in Continuing Professional Development (CPD), for example AMA, or evidence of other formal or informal CPD activity.
• Understanding of how museum collections can be used to engage with visitors, support research and advocate for biodiversity and sustainability agendas.
• Awareness of the different needs of different objects (e.g. storage conditions, handing and display).
• Understanding of health and safety issues, and how these may relate to collections management.
• Experience of working with the public to deliver engagement or activities.
• Experience of using digital media to engage audiences with collections, and ability to develop innovative approaches to using these mediums.
• Awareness of the different ways that museums can generate income in order to support continued activity.
• Experience of supervising and training volunteers.
• Experience managing budgets.
