Job Description |
|
John Wesley's New Room, Bristol is looking for a creative and focused individual to join our small, friendly team, enabling the 18th century heritage site to share it's collection with a wide audience. This key operational role focuses on the care and conservation of our collection, visitor engagement, and volunteer coordination.
On a day-to-day basis, the Head of Collections is responsible for the successful operation of John Wesley's New Room as a heritage site, ensuring the museum's Mission and Vision are achieved through the programming of museum activities, exhibitions and events, the management and support of volunteer teams, and the delivery of a high-quality visitor experience.
The Head of Collections will ensure a strategic overview of the museum collection and archive, including Charles Wesley's House, and will be responsible for its care, management, and development, including interpretation, documentation and conservation, in compliance with Spectrum standards. The Head of Collections will also support organisational management of John Wesley's New Room, deputising for the Director when required.
Required skills / qualifications:
* Degree or professional qualification in relevant discipline or evidence of equivalent experience.
* Minimum three years' experience in heritage or museum context.
* Experience managing collections care and collections management systems.
* Experience of day-to-day operational management of a small visitor attraction, museum or similar.
* Passion for history and sharing heritage with diverse audiences.
* Experience working alongside and managing volunteer teams.
* Confident in use of Microsoft Office package and MODES database.
* Good knowledge of Spectrum standards.
* Excellent verbal and communication skills.
* Proactive and able to act on own initiative when appropriate.
* Enjoy working as part of a small team.
* Commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.
* Ability to deal with competing priorities.
* Sympathetic to the ethos and values of the Methodist Church and John Wesley's New Room. |
