Job Title:   Trustee of Museum
Organisation:   The National Holocaust Museum
Salary:
Type:   Volunteer, Full-Time Position
Location:   Nottinghamshire, England
Closing Date:   Wednesday, 23rd April 2025
Job Ref No:   Trustee

  Job Description
We are currently looking for a Museums Expert to join our Board of Trustees.

-Museum sector engagement: to help the Director and Curatorial team raise the profile of the Museum in the museum sector. We are an education charity that also became an Accredited Museum and an Arts Council England ‘National Portfolio Organisation’ — rather than a traditional museum that has bolted on an education proposition.
‣ Grow our reputation within the Museum Sector: to advise on and assist with introductions which help us to replicate the awareness and reputation that we have achieved in Holocaust Education circles in the wider museum/arts sector. This means helping devise a programme of engaging peers, influencers and journalists; securing speaking invitations; identifying the right exhibition awards schemes to enter; and advising what makes for a winning entry. And any other ideas you may bring.
‣ Partnerships: suggesting partnerships which may help the Museum to achieve its creative, commercial and social objectives.
‣ Governance: providing oversight as necessary of our Curatorial function; helping the executive team optimise joined-up thinking and coordination of the Curatorial and Education teams; being available for consultation by Arts Council England on specific matters.
‣ Donor cultivation: suggesting new Arts funding sources and where appropriate, facilitating introductions and oversee applications.
‣ Internal culture: helping fellow Trustees and staff migrate from a purely Holocaust Education mentality to one which also celebrates our museum creativity and embraces museum commerciality.
‣ Anti-Jewish racism in the Arts: advising on how to foster discussion among Arts leaders about anti-Jewish racism & erasure of Jewish identity in the Arts.
  Required Skills / Qualifications
We are looking for…
-Someone well networked within the UK museum sector
-Someone respected by museum sector peers
-Someone knowledgeable about the state of the art in museology; who can therefore recognise what makes us different and value-creating; and who can advocate externally for our USPs.
-Someone who is an expert in balancing creative and commercial considerations around Public Engagement, Exhibition Making and Event Programming.
-Someone knowledgeable about the Arts funding environment.
