  Job Description
Wellcome Collection is a free museum and library exploring health and human experience, where you can enjoy exhibitions, museum and library collections, public events, and a vibrant shop and caf. We also publish books and online stories.

This is a great time to join Wellcome Collection as we embark on an exciting period of change. Wellcome Collection has recently introduced a new ten-year strategy and this role will play an important part in bringing to life our vision of a world where everyone’s experience of health matters.

Wellcome Collection is part of Wellcome Trust, a global charitable foundation that supports science to build a healthier future for everyone. Wellcome Trust plans to spend 16bn over the next ten years, funding new discoveries in life, health, and wellbeing, and taking on three global health challenges: mental health, infectious disease and climate and health.

These challenges need the bold science we support, but they won’t be solved by science alone.

We are looking for a Digital Editor to join our team on a permanent basis.

Where in Wellcome will I be working?
The digital editorial team looks after the content on Wellcome Collection’s website. We publish stories that explore human health through a wide variety of lived experiences. We also look after the website content that helps everyone from visitors to researchers discover and use our venue.

We’re part of the curatorial team, in the Curatorial and Public Practice department at Wellcome Collection. The curatorial team works with a wide range of collaborators, perspectives and materials to develop and deliver engaging, creative and accessible exhibitions and digital stories that explore diverse experiences of health for audiences in-person and online.

What will I be doing?
You will be a key member of the digital editorial team, ensuring the regular publication and delivery of digital content. You will attract and develop new audiences and deepen engagement with existing audiences through our website by commissioning and editing exciting new stories about our collections, public programme and themes.

We are looking for someone who can:
• Research, plan and write editorial content, including articles, image galleries, photo essays, interviews, and other forms
• Commission and edit writers
• Develop and maintain a community of contacts both inside and outside the organisation for the purposes of researching, commissioning and coordinating new content.
• Write and manage the production of functional site content; working with colleagues in the production of and maintenance of functional site content
• Contribute to our constantly evolving editorial strategy for reaching new and diverse audiences
• Copy-edit site content

Is this job for me?
We are looking for someone with experience in commissioning and editing content, and the ability to generate and assess ideas and translate them into deliverable content. You should have a curiosity about the past, present and future of health, and be familiar with the basics of digital content strategy and design, as well as collaborative practices like pair-writing.

We are looking for somebody who has:
• A track record of producing high quality digital content for a range of audiences.
• Experience communicating and developing internal and external working partnerships with writers, editors, multi-disciplinary creators and subject experts.
• Worked as part of an editorial team.
• The ability to generate and assess ideas, and translate into deliverable content
• Put the needs of the user(s) at the centre of all content production
• The ability to meet deadlines and plan content schedules, both long and short-term
